Short answer

A wallet holds the keys that control your tokens on a chain. The tokens live on-chain, not inside the app.

How to check it yourself

  1. Look up your own wallet address on a block explorer to see that the tokens live on-chain.
  2. Know where your seed phrase is stored, since it is the real key to the wallet.
  3. Check which network the wallet is set to before sending or receiving anything.
